We were approached recently by Encore Magazine to pen a review of the Epic camera system.  You can read the online version of Dan’s article here:

The last four years have seen a massive shift in the way we capture the moving image. With revolutionary cameras such as the Epic and Arri’s Alexa offering terrific options for capturing filmic imagery without prohibitive stock and processing costs. It’s also exciting to see the places a compact unit like RED’s Epic might appear in future productions. We’ve already found angles and mounting options we never thought would be possible – and we’ve only just begun.

We welcome our newest child – Epic #880

epic day feature

We’ve acquired a lot of nerdy gear in our lifetime – but perhaps no single piece of gadgetry has been more anticipated than RED’s new Epic camera.  About the size of a Hasselblad medium format camera, this miracle is capable of shooting 5K at 120 frames-per-second, and up to 300fps at 2K.  It boots up in under 9 seconds and can be operated with one-hand.

We were one of the lucky early adopters to be approved for delivery of a hand-made Epic-M featuring a titanium lens mount.  Needless to say we’ll be putting it rigorously through it’s paces in the coming days – and before long adding it to the rental inventory.  Stay tuned….
